Darren and his BTCC colleagues took part in a charity football match yesterday against a team from ITV Sport. The match, at Chesham United, was in aid of the Iain Rennie Hospice at Home appeal, and was well supported by a number of BTCC drivers including DT's SEAT team mates Jason Plato and James Thompson, Colin Turkington, Rob Collard and Gareth Howell.
Unfortunately, the result didn't go the BTCC team's way. Let's just say that the 12-3 final score in ITV's favour demonstrated that the Dunlop BTCC Wanderers' enthusiasm somewhat outweighed their skill! To be fair, the ITV side did include the channel’s football pundit and ex-Jamaican international and Wimbledon player Robbie Earle, reporter Gabriel Clark and match commentator Peter Drury.
Good fun was had by all - apart from maybe SEAT's Scott Dennis who was in goal for the BTCC Wanderers and who had to be carried off by his team mates with a knee injury.
Darren, 34, lives near Banbury in Oxfordshire. Successful in many different categories of motorsport, his most notable and high profile victories have been at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in the British Touring Car Championship. He's a firm favourite with teams, fans, and media alike from around the world.
