DARREN TO START FROM GT1 FRONT ROW AT SILVERSTONE

15/09/2007

In today's 20-minute qualifying session, Darren's Team Modena team mate for the weekend - Antonio Garcia of Spain - set the GT1 category alight with a storming lap to class pole in his Aston Martin DBR9. Darren has driven in each of the practice sessions so far, but he was happy to let team regular Garcia take the glory in qualifying.

"Obviously the lap Antonio did was fantastic – a second quicker than anyone else which bodes well for the race. We worked hard on our race set up over the three practice sessions and that seems to have worked in qualifying too. Fingers crossed now that all goes smoothly tomorrow. It took me a little while to get back used to the DBR9 as the last time I drove one of these cars in anger was back at Le Mans in June but I'm fully tuned in now.

“It’s great to be racing again here at Silverstone, but it’s definitely a track of two halves and that makes it harder to find a good balance. The first half is very fast while the second is tight and twisty. We seem to have found that balance and both the drivers are happy and the team is happy.

“The race kicks off at 12 tomorrow and, as long as the boys do a good job on the pit stops and we don’t have any problems, we should be able to get some silverware.  I’m really looking forward to it and we just need to pound round and do some good consistent lap times."

The six hour or 1,000 kilometre race, the fifth round of the 2007 Le Mans Series, takes place on Silverstone's Grand Prix circuit tomorrow, 16th September.
