BRNO PODIUM WITH SCUDERIA ECOSSE

24/09/2007

Scuderia Ecosse and Darren Turner took a well-deserved third place in yesterday’s eighth round of the FIA GT Championship at Brno in the Czech Republic.

After starting the two-hour race from a superb second place on the grid, the British pairing of Turner and Tim Mullen in their Ferrari 430 GT had a spirited fight back from towards the back of the field after Mullen was knocked into a spin just ten laps into the race. They actually finished the race in fourth place but were promoted to third when the no.52 Ferrari was excluded from the results for a ride height infringement.

“Tim had a good start but there was a small chain of cars all going for second place and it got a bit messy,” said Darren. “Unfortunately, Gimmi Bruni in an AF Corse Ferrari lunged up Tim’s inside at the last corner and spun him around onto the grass.

“I’m disappointed that Bruni had Tim off,” continued Turner, “especially in light of the conversation that took place prior to the race where we all agreed a strategy of ‘clean’ racing between the Ferraris. Tim tried to do the rest of his stint even though the tyres were in a bad way, and his pace wasn’t too bad considering. He was called in a little earlier than planned, having got stuck behind a GT1 car, and our original strategy had been to change tyres at this first stop.

“There was, however, a last minute change of plan and I had to do my stint on tyres that were not only old, but that had also been spun on and been over the grass. Despite that, I had a really good scrap with Collard in the BMS Porsche for a number of laps – it was hard but fair and we were side by side through a number of corners but had no contact. Unfortunately we were struggling with overall grip because of the state of the tyres so couldn’t make a lot of headway. All in all, it was bit of a disappointing result from what could have been a very good weekend.”

Darren and the team now move onto Nogaro in south west France for next weekend’s penultimate round of the Championship.
